Bittersweet refers to a combination of the standard tastes of sweetness and bitterness, and is often used as a metaphor for experiences which have elements of both happiness and sadness.

That is how I feel today.  The truck is packed.  We leave in a couple of hours for the boat.  I sit in my room for the last time.  I hope this move will turn out for the best.  I look at the lines on the kitchen wall where I carved Damon’s height as he grew from a boy to a man.  I remember bringing Sarah home from the hospital as I envision taking her to the hospital ( on a very slow boat) to give birth to her own daughter.

This house holds so many memories.  I seem only to remember the good ones.  The bad ones tossed away.  I think of my future.  I think of my granddaughter and daughter.  I think of my son so far away.  I want to hug him.

The house is silent as I say my goodbyes.  A single tear falls as I write this.  I look forward to new memories as I put the old ones in a safe place.  A place where I can bring them out anytime.

I look through the skylight at the trees that seem so much taller now.  I remember planting that blue spruce the year Sarah was born.  Now it stands tall and stately just like her.   I know I will be happy wherever I am as long as I am with family.

Oh fuckity fuck,  just get me on the damn boat!!!!

Big News!

I have some big news to tell you all.

WE are moving to the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Sarah has worked there for 7 years and her bosses and our family feel it is time to make the big move to the Vineyard. Sarah spends almost three hours a day commuting on the boat and this time is taken away from the time she could be spending with our family, especially new baby.

The house we are renting has four bedrooms so Sarah and Obie won’t have to live in the basement anymore. My bedroom is on the first floor and the second floor has three bedrooms–one for the wasband when he visits, one for new baby and one for Sarah and Obie. There is a farmer’s porch the whole length of the front of the house . I just imagine myself going out there at night rocking the baby. There is a deck on the back of the house and 1 1/2 acres of land. It has a big kitchen with lots of cupboard space and counter space–something I don’t currently have. It has so many closets too. It has a dining area which we don’t have now.

I have always loved the house I am in because I have been here 35 years and it is home. I know we can make the new house into a home if we are all together. You can even see the water from the house in the winter when there are no leaves on the trees. There are no houses behind us all the way to the water. It is all trees. You can barely see the house across the street and next door with all the trees.

It even has a laundry room on the main floor. I won’t have to do any stairs. It also has not one but two full baths. I feel that I will be living like a queen. I am so not use to a house this big.

I will post some Christmas photos but Sarah has my camera and I keep forgetting to ask her for it.

I’ll post photos of the house as soon as soon as I get them. This is a google image and the house is right in the middle.

Your pregnancy: 16 weeks

See the big picture

How your baby’s growing:

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he’s about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren’t recognizable yet. He’s even started growing toenails. And there’s a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Soon you’ll experience one of the most wonderful moments of pregnancy — feeling your baby move. While some women notice “quickening” as early as 16 weeks, many don’t feel their baby move until about 18 weeks or more. (And if this is your first baby, don’t be too impatient — you may not be aware of your baby’s movements until 20 weeks or so.) The earliest movements may feel like little flutters, gas bubbles, or even like popcorn popping. Over the following weeks they’ll grow stronger and you’ll be able to feel them much more frequently.

Comparing Christmas!!

Another befor eand after photo. Last Christmas vs. this Christmas.

Last Year!

This Year!

I will post more photos tomorrow but I had to post this. I hope you all had an Absolutely Fabulous Holiday. I know I did.

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah!!

I celebrate Christmas but I have a lot of Jewish friends whom I adore so I want to wish everyone a happy holiday for whatever you are into.

This is my last post until after Christmas.  I am wrapping presents but I had to take a little time out—boring.  Honestly, I’d rather do dishes.  I wish I had enough bags so I could just throw every present into a bag but in our new quest to save money because of new baby I am wrapping.wrapping

This afternoon I go to my sister’s so we can make the appetizers and desserts for tonight’s party.  My niece shows up and we all cook together.  I wish Sarah could be there but she has to work.  It was more fun when it was the four of us but times change which to be honest with you I always have a tough time with.  I am a glutton for routine but things are going to be changing for me fast in the future and I will just have to roll with it.

Tonight we attend the party and tomorrow we go to Obie’s father’s and step mom’s  for dinner.  Usually we go to my sister’s but from now on we are going to alternate families.  Fortunately Obie’s family is awesome and I am sure we will have a great dinner and a wonderful time.  They are very laid back and fun to be with.

I’ll take lots of photos and hopefully videos.

I want to take time now to thank all of my wonderful blog buddies for a great year.  You have all been there for me through thick and thin.  I can’t believe I am fortunate enough to have made such good friends.  I don’t say this lightly either.  I really freakin’ mean it. I love you all.

Merry Christmas and to all a Goodnight!!!

Rant and Rave!

I haven’t been on the blogs in the past couple of days.  Nothing is wrong.  I just needed a little blog vacation.  I did try to post a couple of comments on some people’s blogs and I couldn’t because for some reason they don’t like either of my e-mail addresses now.  I couldn’t post to Annie on writerchick’s or Kilax’s blogs.  So don’t think I’m not trying, you two.

I may also be just too excited about this grandma thing.  Did you see the comment my daughter left?

I watched movies for a couple of days and caught up on TV shows that I had on DVR.

Now the RANT.  It’s about the depersonalization of banking.  In other words, BANKS SUCK!!  I used to work for a bank 30 years ago.  Wow, has it changed.  These banks that tell you they do community banking or personal banking–LIES–THEY SUCK!!!!

I’m referring to the largest bank in America.  My son has an account there.  They have branches from here to Florida so if I do have to throw some money in his account I can.   He overdrew his account with two items for a total of $2.72 and they charged him $105.00 which made his account overdraw  another 5 items which totaled under $28.00.  They charged him another $175.00 for those 5 items.  Originally if they had only charged him for the two items instead of three, none of this would have happened.  It’s turning into a nightmare.  I went to the bank and ended up in tears in front of the bank lady.  I really think she was trying her best to help me but she has no authority to refund the overdraft fees. The bank has taken all authority away from these people.

If he doesn’t have this account I can’t send him the money I have for him unless I Western Union it which costs so much money.

The end result is he is in Myrtle Beach, SC without a penny to his name.

Years ago when I worked for a bank.  We used to call our customers who were overdrawn and give them a chance to make good before we bounced checks and charged them fees.

Now to the fucker who tried to scam Damon on the internet:  Someday I will find you and shove my cane where the sun don’t shine!!!!  You Spineless Bastard!!

Damon applied for a job on Craigslist ( not to say that Craigslist is bad) .  This so called Doctor in England needed someone in North Carolina to valet his grandmother around for three weeks.  He was going to send Damon a certified check for the first week’s pay and Damon would drive to meet the grandmother and start work.  Thank goodness, I was in on this because I smelled scam right away.

I just couldn’t quite see what the scam was until the guy sent Damon a $3000.00 check and wanted him to Western Union $2300.00 of it to his travel agent who would then pay for the grandma’s ticket to North Carolina.  Well, I took over and started e-mailing the guy and leading him on pretending to be Damon.  I did this for about a week just to suck up his time and give him hope only to take it away.  Finally I told him Damon had given the check to a friend in the FBI who was going to check it out.  Needless to say we never heard from him again.  I’m turning the check and all the e-mails over to the FBI for real.

Poor Damon, he had such high hopes that this would give him enough money to get him started wherever he lands.

Now I said this would be a Rave too.  The only thing I can rave about is the prospect of being a grandma but I guess you all knew I would say that.

I’ll be back to reading and commenting soon.  Oh, I almost forgot.  The wasband has been hogging the computer and playing solitaire taking valuable blogging time away from me.  But alas, how can I complain.  It’s his computer.

Before and After

The top photo is from Thanksgiving 2 years ago and the bottom photo is from this past Thanksgiving.

I Am So Freakin’ Thankful!!!!!

I’ve thought of about 100 different ways to write this post but I’m going to do what I always do and just write “Whatever I Think”.

There I’ve said it.  Could I be more excited ?  ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN’  NO!

Will I be a good granny?  It depends on who you ask.

Now you all know how long I’ve been wanting to be a grandma.  I may have mentioned it numerous times. Here is the cool story of how and when they told us.

On October 11th we went to visit Grampa in the nursing home.  We knew he only had a few days to live.  He didn’t seem to be recognizing anyone but the whole time we were there he held onto both of Sarah’s hands and wouldn’t stop looking at her.  It seemed like he was trying to tell her something but he had severe pneumonia and nothing was coming out.  He never let go of her hands the whole visit.  It was a sad time because we knew we probably wouldn’t see him again.  At the same time watching him hold Sarah’s hands was so moving and beautiful.

We finally left the nursing home and went out to dinner.  We were starving and  1 1/2 hours from home.  We sat down at a table and Sarah said she had something to tell us.  Barry, Leslie and I looked at her with rapt attention.  I’m thinking they are getting another dog or they are going to paint the house.  She said ” I’m pregnant.”   I said  “No, you’re not.”  I seriously thought she was joking.  She said  “Mom,  I wouldn’t joke about something like this.”  Then I burst into tears and was hugging her and crying really loudly.

Sarah explained that she thought it might be bad timing to tell us then, what with Grampa being so ill and all, but she couldn’t hold it back anymore.  She also said she felt Grampa would want us to know because we were sort of exchanging him for a new baby and he would like that.  I swear Grampa knew she was pregnant.  Somehow he just knew and if he did I am sure it made him very happy.

So I have known for almost 6 weeks.  Do you know how hard it was for me not to tell anyone?  It damn near killed me.  Sarah wanted to not tell everyone until she was at least 12 weeks along.  At Thanksgiving they announced it to Obie’s family.

Another amazing thing happened.  Sarah has a best friend.  They have known each other since kindergarten. They always swore they would be pregnant together.  Bianca got married last year.  She came to the house two weeks ago to tell us she was pregnant too.  She is only two weeks behind Sarah and it is totally coincidental.

Thanksgiving was wonderful yesterday because I have so much to be thankful for.  I will post a few photos.  Most of the good ones are on Sarah’s camera but I have a couple.  I will post the rest tomorrow.

This is what greeted us when we arrived

The Thanksgiving Table

My tiny dessert, Key Lime pie

We have so much to do to prepare for a baby living in this house.  It will be quite a task for all of us.  Of course,  you will all get blow by blow descriptions of everything that happens as it happens.

I might even post again today but I want to get this up and share the news.

Sucked Into Cleaning!!

I went with my sister to have coffee yesterday and when I came back home, my daughter and her hubby were on a cleaning binge.  Oh why didn’t I stay at my sister’s house longer?  I came home and got sucked into cleaning.  I just couldn’t sit back and watch them or go lock myself in my room. They were cleaning the upstairs where I live so I felt obligated to help.  My daughter wants the house all spiffy for Christmas.

We got a lot done.  There was a lot of clutter and vacuuming to do.

The best thing I did was clean out the junk drawer and turn it into my new spice drawer.

My spices were on three small shelves next to the window over the sink and I could never find what I was looking for.  And yes, I use them all.  I also cleaned out the refrigerator.

We have to make room for all the food we will be making for the holidays.  I am going grocery shopping today with my brother and it is pouring out.  Yuck!!

Sunday, my daughter and I spent the day shopping and we had lunch at Red Robin.  I had a chicken wrap and only ate half.  That’s a first.  I had the rest for supper and I was actually full.

We went to BJ’s, a discount food store, where you buy everything in bulk, don’t get bags, and everything is way cheaper,  so we stocked up.  We now have enough toilet paper to last for months.  They also sell lots of other stuff beside food.  We had to join.  It’s like a club thing but we saved so much money.  I will be going back for sure.

I will be posting a list of things to be thankful for but I am not doing it until Friday.  There is a good reason why but you will have to wait to find out.

I was sincerely sad to see Red’s blog, “Dr. Pepper Is Good For The Soul” gone.  I must have missed her goodbye post because I had no idea.  I do understand why people stop blogging, though. It can be very time consuming.  I will really miss her.  She had an awesome sense of humor and was a great blogger.

I may not post again until Friday because I am very busy with making crafts, cooking, baking, shopping and evidently there is more cleaning.  UHG!

Damon is traveling down the coast looking for jobs as he goes.  No luck yet.  He is still in North Carolina couchsurfing.

That scarecrow keeps showing up on my blog!!

What Time Is It? Damon Is On His Way South!!

Where I live, it is 6:49PM on Tuesday November 18.  I think it is unnecessary to put the year.  I’m hoping you all know that already.  What freaks me out is: it is tomorrow in some places.  Like’ it’s almost 1:00PM in the afternoon tomorrow in Auckland, New Zealand.  Now, I know people there.  I find it so weird to think they are living in my tomorrow at the same time I am living in their yesterday.

It’s the little things in life, eh?

Now if  “Scotty” could beam me over there,  would I be 18 hours older in the second it took me to get there? I’d be in tomorrow land.

Sometimes I think of the weirdest stuff.

OK, enough of the space and time continuum.

Damon left to go South tonight at about 5:30 PM my time.  We took some photos of the tearful goodbye.  Who knows when I will see him again.

Damon saying goodbye to his beloved cat Yoda. The cat I will never let him have even though it is technically his.

Obie, Damon and the Wasband

Damon and me just before he leaves

Damon and Me–The final teary goodbye!!!  I’m wearing my old fat pants–they make me look even bigger!!

Sarah was still at work so she wasn’t home when he left.  He wrote her a nice thank you letter.

He’s been gone two hours.  I’ve already talked to him three times on his cell phone.

He’s actually headed west to Syracuse, N.Y. to visit his girlfriend for one night before he goes South.  Only a couple of days out of his way but I suppose there is really no hurry to go South.  It’ll be there when he gets there.

Halloween Party 2008 with CrackPot Video!!

The party was a success.  I had a great time.  About half the people wore costumes and they agreed to let me post their photos.  The first is a video of me.

My niece’s new house

The Zombies (my niece and her husband)

Batman and his Witch

Me and the Lost Boys

Me and the Rockers

Obie and Sarah

There was tons of food.  I ate shrimp, vegetables and some Baked corn chips with salsa.  I didn’t have any lunch or supper at home.  I did have a few rum and diet cokes and then a few more.  Don’t worry my daughter drove and she doesn’t drink.

One thing I discovered at my niece’s house was a spare bedroom.  When you are on her deck you have a beautiful view of the pond. I stupidly didn’t take a photo of it.  My niece and her husband are awesome people.  They only live about 30 minutes away.  I could actually drive there.  They told me I am welcome to stay over when I need a little vacation.  I am going to take them up on it. They are a really easy going pair and lots of fun to hang out with.  So now I have a new getaway.

I am so lucky to have such a wonderful family. There were a few crackpots at the party but no dumbasses except for possibly me.  I managed to spill salsa on myself after being there for only five minutes.

I need one of these–an adult bib!!  I disguised  the model.
