Going To The Vineyard!!

Tomorrow morning Sarah and I are going to Martha’s Vineyard for the weekend. I will miss weight watchers but I think I have lost about 2 pounds this week. Sarah got tickets to the play “It’s A Wonderful Life”. We have front row seats thanks to the wheel chair. They are having a great Christmas celebration over the weekend in Edgartown.

To me, doing things like this with Sarah is what Christmas is all about. I am really looking forward to this.

Your pregnancy: 14 weeks

How your baby’s growing:

This week’s big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he’ll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you’re having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby’s stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body’s growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that’s in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He’s starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby’s liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it’s doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can’t feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist’s hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

So baby has gone from a shrimp to a lemon. I wonder if they will continue to compare baby to food. I guess baby will be an orange soon.

I did what little shopping I had to do on Amazon today. The Vineyard has some awesome shops so I might pick up a few things there.

I have to make this short because it’s late and I have to pack and get ready for tomorrow. I hope you all have a great weekend. I will try to post tomorrow while Sarah is working. I will take lots of photos too.

I Leave Tomorrow For Martha’s Vineyard! Also Tomorrow is my 39th Wedding Anniversery!!

So tomorrow starts my big three day weekend on the Vineyard.

The concert will be in Oak Bluffs.  I will be selling tickets in the VIP area. I will have my camera ready.  Hopefully everyone will be nice to me.  I don’t want to deal with any dumbasses and I’m sure they don’t want to be on You Tube.

You’d think I was flying across the world instead of taking a 45 minute boat ride to an island 5 miles away.  I have lists and then more lists.

My lists.  See if you can make sense of them.

Obie will take me to the boat and get me on with my wheelchair and luggage and Sarah will meet me on the other side and help me off the boat.  I will have to walk up a rather large hill because it would be too hard for her to push me in the wheelchair but I can stop and sit in the wheel chair to rest.   Hopefully I won’t roll back all the way down the hill at high speed and end up in the ocean.  But if I do I’ll have Sarah take a video of it.

My childhood friend Nancy and her whole family, coincidentally, are going to be on the Island on Monday so we will have lunch with them.  She’ll have her first new (5 months old) grandchild with her. I can’t wait to see him.  We will eat at the Seafood Shanty.

Saturday night we will go to dinner with Sarah’s two bosses.  That will be fun too.  I don’t know where we are going to dinner.

Then to top it all off tomorrow is my 39th wedding anniversary.  That is if I was still married.  But the Wasband and I are going to celebrate it on Monday night along with his ex-girlfriend, Meg, and his currant girlfriend, Leslie.  He is taking us all to see Coco Montoya, a blues guitarist at Chan’s in Woonsocket, R.I., the town I was born in.  We’ll have dinner there too. That will be fun too because we all get along great. I don’t know too many guys who could pull that off and have all the women be happy.

Sarah and Wasband at her wedding 4 years ago

The wasband and I at our wedding 39 years ago tomorrow.

I’m going to my weight watchers meeting in the morning. I was going to skip it but I shouldn’t.  It will remind me how to eat in restaurants so I don’t screw up.  Then I will take the 1:00 PM boat out of Woods Hole. I’ll take lots of photos and video.  I might be able to blog on Sarah’a laptop to keep you all up to date.

Two Days Of Fun In The Sun!! Wasband Has Sandwich Stolen By a Seagull!! Damon in Alaska!!

Oh, I so wish I had video of the Wasband on Sunday.  We all decided to go to the beach:  Me, Sarah, Obie, Wasband and his friend Leslie.  Sarah had to leave to go get Obie.  Leslie and Barry decided to eat their sandwiches.  I warned them of the dire consequences of doing this on the beach with those extremely aggressive FREAKIN’ SEAGULLS flying around.  He hadn’t taken one bite of his sandwich and a seagull swooped in from behind him, landed on his leg and swiped his sandwich.  I could hardly breath I was laughing so much.  I tried to video tape the after shock that Barry seemed to be going through but I was so hysterically laughing I forgot to turn the camera on. Just remember, I did not refer to anyone as a dumbass but it sure wasn’t the seagull.

After the beach we had to go to a memorial concert.  Our next door neighbor’s ( the ones I have lived near for 34 years and actually speak to) son passed away a few weeks ago.  He was only 45 years old.  I’d known him since he was eleven. He was a rock musician. His birthday was yesterday and they held a party anyway as a benefit. Lots of people came to honor him. There were about 5 bands and we ended up staying for three hours. They were selling 2 freshly grilled hamburgers, with chips, potato salad, baked beans for $5. I didn’t eat anything.  I did have 2 Bud Lights but I counted the points.

The motorcycle guys

One of the bands.  We sat way in the back.  It was very, very loud.

Sarah’s knees, Leslie and the Wasband

Today, Sarah and I went to the beach again.  We went to a different beach and the seagulls weren’t so bad so we carefully ate our sandwiches and none were stolen.  I didn’t have my camera with me because I forgot to charge the battery.

Oh, and on Sunday after the wasband’s sandwich was stolen, a woman came up to us and said the same thing just happened to her husband.

So I had a busy two days and am now behind in my comments.  I’ll catch up soon.

Damon’s girlfriend, Anna,  just sent me 250 photos of them and Alaska. I will post two now but write a post about their adventures soon.  Damon and his girlfriend Anna both left comments on here.  I cried when I read them. I’m such a baby.

Damon loves catching salmon.

I don’t know why sitting at the beach makes me so tired, but it does, so I will catch up with evreyone tomorrow.

I Relapsed–Not on Alcohol or Drugs But Fat Free Pringles!!

I missed my weight watcher’s meeting last week but went today knowing I had relapsed and eaten too many Fat Free Pringles. I can never, ever buy them again. You know the old saying “Bet you just can’t eat one”? Well, that holds true for me with FF Pringles. I can eat a whole box at one sitting and I have eaten probably 5 in the last two weeks.

Damn you to Hell you FF Pringles!! I have no control over you!!

I gained 1 1/2 pounds!!!

I think I have learned my lesson.

I talked to my daughter about it and she said not to worry.  She said “Mom, how many people do you know  who have lost as much weight as you?”.  She knows just what to say to make me feel good and motivate me.

I’d like to say that I felt like a loser but I can’t because I didn’t lose anything. I’m a gainer. What ever the hell that means. But I will NOT give up.  It’s just a minor setback.

There goes listening to music of the 50’s cause I’m back in the 60’s.   I wonder if I subconsciously did it purposefully because I like the music from the 60’s better?

On a brighter note, I get to go to the Martha’s Vineyard Music Festival next weekend with Sarah.  I will stay with her for two nights at her apartment.  This is the first time in over 10 years that I sleep other than at home except for my 4 week stint in the hospital which doesn’t count because that was not a vacation.

The one thing we have to do is donate our time in the name of her store for a few hours.  That also gets us in for free because the tickets are $80 bucks a piece. They know I am disabled so I will probably be seated to accept tickets.

Saturday night we will go out to dinner with Sarah’s two bosses M and C. I’m looking forward to that. I’ve never really gotten a chance to sit down and chat with them. They have been very good to her and I will enjoy getting to know them better.

She will work on Saturday and I can sit on her porch which overlooks the harbor and use her laptop. I will be taking lots of video and photos.  Her porch also overlooks the main Street of Vineyard Haven. There will probably be famous people on the island so hopefully I can get some photos. Oh, if I could just get some video of famous people doing dumbass stuff.

HillBilly–It’s easier to have them both in one photo. They vacation on the Vineyard almost every summer. There’s a chance they could be at the concert.  It is considered the Vineyard’s biggest cultural affair of the summer.

Imagine me at a cultural affair. Ha! Ha!  I sure hope it’s casual because I will be dressing casually.

Brutally Attacked by Crazed Seagull at the Beach Today!! With Video!

Well, maybe not exactly brutally,  but the damn seagull stole my sandwich that I made myself right out of my hand. I do have a short video of the horrific aftermath.  You can see the bird (the fucker, which I actually yelled that at him in the video) eating the rest of my sandwich.

First I have a video from my car and I am not driving. SO DO NOT BE AFRAID!! Only 1min 39 seconds.

This next video is just before the thieving bird got my sandwich. Short only 21 seconds.

The last video shows the seagull eating the remnants of my sandwich. Short only 30 seconds.

I try not to take videos that are too long so you won’t get bored.

I also bought a freakin’ bathing suit today.  The first one I have bought in so many years I can’t even remember. I guarantee one thing:  YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME IN IT.

I am going to catch up tomorrow on making comments here and reading your blogs.

Oh, I was interviewed on Anonymum’s blog “The Nook of Oz” today. So please go check it out.  After that interview you will know a helluva lot more about me than you ever did.

A Day At The Beach With Sarah! Includes a Video of Me!!

My daughter has Mondays off and we usually do something together. The first thing we did was take Sarah and Obie’s dog Phoenix to the vet to have her nails trimmed.

Phoenix, taking her job of driving very seriously.

Phoenix smiling because she knows she is doing a great job at the wheel.

I swear Phoenix drives better than the woman in this video that I took. Unfortunately I missed videotaping her doing anything stupid but you can listen to me complain about her dumassness.

Afterward we went to the beach.  I haven’t been to the beach in maybe 17 years.  We brought our lunch.  I got a grilled chicken wrap and I didn’t eat the cole slaw that came with it.

That was a lousy picture because I couldn’t  see what was on the screen of the camera in the sun until it occurred to me to use the viewfinder. But before I realized you could look in the viewfinder and actually see what you were taking a photo of I took this picture of a kite.

I wonder where the kite is?

Sarah took this video of me as I was walking back from the water. I went in all the way to my ankles.

We stayed at the beach for almost 3 hours.  It was so nice and relaxing.  There was a nice sea breeze. It was cloudy at first and it was later in the day when we got there but soon a hazy sun came out along with more tourists.

We went to the grocery store next and I spared Sarah the embarrassment of bringing in the camera.  We came home and Sarah made Salmon Salad, one of her specialties.  She even bought the good Wild Salmon.

And of course now I am blogging after making Sarah 2 breakfasts ( yogurts and Vitamuffins), 2 lunches (one sandwich and wrapping up the stuff for her to make one more sandwich)  and one supper( leftover Salmon Salad ) for her overnight stay on the Island tomorrow night.

And that was my day and a very good one at that.

Meme from The Girl From The Ghetto! Includes Fun Facts about Toilet Paper!

So I was tagged to do a questionaire-type meme by The Girl From the Ghetto. She has a most awesome site. She keeps me updated on my favorite show “Lost”. Stuff happens on that show and I’m watching it but somehow I miss it and she is very smart and observant and doesn’t miss a thing, thank goodness, otherwise I would never know what was going on. She also writes about lots of other interesting things. If you haven’t been there you should check her out.

Favorite person (outside family

This is difficult because I don’t hang out with much of anyone outside my family. I do have three friends though and I can’t choose between them. I don’t even hang out with them that much but I always talk to them on the phone or e-mail them and they are always there for me. First is my long lost sister Wendy from Life with Buck. She has been my sister’s best friend for years and we decided that my mother must have lost her in a store when she was little and never told us about it. She is so much like us that she has to be our third sister.

Cindy is a woman I met through my store about 10 years ago. She started coming in and we started talking and we have been best friends ever since. I talk on the phone to her everyday and she tries to get to see me as often as she can but she lives maybe 30 miles from here and with gas prices…

The other is Nancy, who lives even further away but I met her when I was 10 years old and we have been best friends ever since. OMG, the stuff we did when we were young.

Favorite food?

Another tough one because there is very little food I don’t like. One of my favorite foods is the potato in all it’s cooked forms–mashed, fried, scalloped, homefries, chips. It doesn’t matter how you cook one I will eat it.

Quirks about you?

Oh Lord, ask my daughter. She probably has a list a mile long. One of my quirks to someone else would seem normal to me so another difficult one to answer. Well, I won’t put the toilet paper on the paper holder thingy. Not because I can’t but I always want to see if anyone else will do it. Most times no one does. It’s sort of pointless having the thing.

Fun facts about toilet paper from Wikipedia:

“New Yorker Joseph C. Gayetty produced the first packaged bathroom tissue in the United States in 1857. The Gayetty Firm from New Jersey produced the first toilet paper named “The Therapeutic Paper”. It contained an abundance of aloe, a curative addition. The company sold it in packs of 500 sheets for fifty cents, and Joseph Gayetty had his name printed on each sheet!
Before toilet tissue- wealthy Romans used wool and rosewater and sponges soaked in salt water at the end of a stick. Wealthy French used lace, wool and hemp. In the Middle Ages they used hayballs and a scraper/gompf stick kept in a container in the privy. Early Americans used rags, newsprint, paper from catalogs, corncobs, and leaves. Vikings used lambs wool. Hawaiians used coconut shells. Eskimos used snow and Tundra moss. A bidet is used in France. Defecating in the river is very common. Cleaning with the left hand and water is common in India. Sailors used the frayed end of an old anchor line.”
This looks like it might work for us!

How would the person who loves you most describe you in ten words or less? (Ask them)

loving, loyal, funny, forgetful, quirky, accepting, helpful, honest, smart and sassy.

My daughter typed in the above herself. I didn’t even prompt her.

Any regrets in life?

Hell yea!! I wouldn’t have eaten so many fried potatoes!!!

Favorite Charity/Cause?

I don’t have a charity. I am a charity. Sometimes I feel useless being disabled. I want to hang out on some corner with a tin cup and beg for money so I can pay back my daughter and my wasband for all they have done for me.

I do have a cause. That is the consumption, the breathing in of, and the putting on our skin of way too many chemicals. The average person manages to take in almost 200 chemicals a day. Don’t get me started on this. I could write a 10,000 word essay on it in 2 minutes if I could type that fast.

Favorite Blog recently?

All my blogs are my favorites otherwise I’d delete them. I can’t think of anyone on my blogroll that I don’t absolutely adore. You have all changed my life for the better.

Something you can’t get enough of?

Worst job you’ve ever had?

When I was in high school I worked on an assembly line putting little white covers on little white boxes, over and over and over again. It was sort of like the I Love Lucy show, the famous episode of her and Ethel on the chocolate candy assembly line. Only it was me and Nancy. We didn’t last too long at that job.

What job would you pay NOT to have?

Come on, what did I just say, remember already, the little white boxes?

If you could be a fly on the wall, where?

Hillary Clinton’s bedroom. I’d love to hear the love talk between Hill and Bill. I wonder if she wears a Monica wig and they play Bill and Monica.

Favorite Bible verse right now?

Sorry, haven’t read it recently. I still have a version of a Children’s Bible Stories book that my brother gave me when I was about 10 years old. It’s in my book case. I’ll just give you my favorite saying. I guess you could call it my mantra–“It is what it is” That’s how I am able to accept a lot of stuff I can’t change. It’s a lot shorter than that Al Anon one I can never remember the words to but is basically the same thing and I can remember this one.

Guilty Pleasure?

Being unemployed. When I’m not feeling guilty about it, it sure is fun.

Got any confessions?

I’ve already confessed about stealing my sister’s diary when I was a kid and finding my brother’s pot stash. I can’t think of much else.

If you HAD to spend $1,000 on YOURSELF, how would you spend it?

I couldn’t spend it on myself. Well, maybe just a little of it. I would probably buy that King Arthur statue from Design Toscano. I’d have to give most of it to my daughter towards bills.

Favorite thing about your house?

My bedroom. I wrote a whole post about it with photos.

Least favorite thing about your house?

Not having walls in the bathroom. It finally got a door after quite a few months. You can’t see into it but when you are in it all you see is the insulation. Oh, and we have no front steps. You walk out the front door and you are going to drop three feet to the ground. Thank goodness we have a side door with a railing so I can get out of this place when I want to.

One thing you are bad at?

Singing. You don’t want to hear me sing. First I can never remember all the words to any song except “The Eensy Weensy Spider”.

One thing you’re good at?

Cooking. I think I do a damn good job cooking for this family. Except I’m not cooking tonight. I got off prednisone completely and I didn’t think it would cause so much pain. I can hardly walk at all. I couldn’t even go grocery shopping so I am getting back on a low dose until I get to go to the pain management clinic. I don’t know what they are going to eat for supper . I told my daughter and she kept saying “Don’t worry about it Mom”, but I do.

If you could change something about your circumstances, what would it be?

Having the money to buy a bigger house for us all.

Who would you like to meet someday?

I’d like to meet up with my father again, even for just a minute so I could tell him how much I love him.

What makes you feel sexy?

Nothing I can think of until I lose another 125 pounds. Then talk to me, Baby.

Who is your real life hero?

My Dad. He was such a hot shit. He was a wonderful father. Someday I’ll have to tell some good stories about him.

My Dad

What is the hardest part of your job?

Since I don’t actually work at a job and mostly what I do is cook I guess I would say grocery shopping. Until they give those cripple carts more power, grocery shopping takes forever.

When are you most relaxed?

When all my cooking chores are done and I sit in my big comfy chair and relax for the rest of the evening.

What stresses you out?

Worrying about my son.

What can you not live without?

My family

Why do you blog?

It’s free therapy!!

I am not going to tag anyone but feel free to do this meme if it pleases you. I know it would please me.

You Tube of My Daughter on Martha’s Vineyard Local TV Station Plum TV

This interview was done at the end of last summer. I just thought I would post it. I first had to get it off the Plum TV website and then download it to You Tube. I have never done this before so it was a learning experience too. Plus you will meet my daughter. She has cut her hair and lost some weight since this was done. It’s an interview about about wedding jewelry, not wedding rings but gifts for the father and groomsmen and bridesmaids and favors etc. She manages the most popular jewelry store on Martha’s Vineyard. Carly Simon is one of her customers. Carly sang to her once which I thought was pretty funny.

This is from the Website for the store she works for.

Sarah York, Sarah Yorkthe store manager, joined C.B. Stark in 2002. She began working in the jewelry industry at the age of nineteen, when she took a summer job working for a large national jewelry chain on Cape Cod. Within a few months she was a store manager. She realized that she loved the jewelry industry but didn’t want to work for a large corporation. Sarah then became the service manager at Guertin Brothers Jewelers, a well-known independent jewelery retailer on Cape Cod. In 2002, she moved her career to Martha’s Vineyard. She currently lives “off-island” in Falmouth and commutes to the Vineyard by ferry.
Sarah continues to further her education with the Gemological Institute of America, where she has many certifications, including her Graduate Diamonds Diploma. Her education and experience help her work with customers to design one-of-a-kind pieces or create new jewelry out of old.

Mother’s Day: Yesterday and Today

I had a great Mother’s Day. Sarah and I went to the local huge garden center and she bought window boxes, soil and plants for the boxes, 2 hanging plants plus hangers to hang them on that stick in the ground. Then we went to that store I don’t like that starts with W but is the only store around where we could possibly buy the things we were looking for. We got four Tiki Torches and a small tiered tiki torch to put on a table which I have to return because it was broken. Typical W stuff. You have to always end up returning something.

We came home and Sarah started to clean up the side of the house where I want my Oasis. She also planted all the plants in the window boxes. She had to do everything alone because her hubby caught some kind of stomach virus and was sick. The wasband was out birding and offered to come home and help but she told him to stay out and have fun. She even cleaned the gutters.

Today, we went to Lowe’s Home Improvement Center and bought a Chiminea and solar lights.

I already have a bird bath and a wooden swing to incorporate into all of this. I also want some kind of outdoor statuary. I saw a Dragon statue online. Don’t know if the kids will go for it.

I will probably have to wait for my birthday for something like the above which is June 9th.

I don’t have after photos yet of my Oasis because it isn’t quite finished. The chiminea has to be put together. Sarah is good at stuff like that so I’m sure she will do it but she might have to wait for the weekend. That’s OK I’ll be patient.

She also took me to lunch today and I did good . I had grilled chicken topped with salsa on a bed of rice with vegetables and I only ate half of it. Last night after all the work was done we had a barbecue and made our favorite teriyaki turkey burgers. It was too cold to sit in my Oasis but soon we will have the chiminea. It’s unseasonably cold here for May.

Hope all the Mother’s had a great Mother’s day and everyone else had a great day too. I also want to thank my daughter for giving me such a wonderful two day Mother’s Day.

I can’t wait to see the chiropractor on Wednesday. My back hurts so much from watching Sarah work so hard. 🙂

2 Pounds- Now I Can Listen To Music From the 70’s

I had my weight watcher’s meeting this morning and I lost two more pounds. Thank goodness!!! I am now in the 70’s. And I mean that in more ways than one. By the 70’s I mean I have gone down from the 280’s to the 270’s after starting out at a whopping 344 pounds. I think the kids were starting to think about what crane company they were going to use to haul me out of the house when I hit 400.

Being in the 70’s also means I can now listen to 70’s music. When I hit the 90’s I would only listen to music from the 90’s. When I hit the 80’s I would only listen to music from the 80’s. And now I am in the 70’s and can listen to my favorite music. I love music from the 70’s so I hope I don’t dwell in the 70’s for too long just for the music. Thank goodness I love 60’s music too. I am a wannabe flower child. No disco for me.

I’d actually like to dress like an old hippie. I found some cool websites with vintage 60’s clothing. I can see it now.

My daughter is really going to think I’ve gone off the deep end if I start wearing clothes like the above. But then we all know our roles our reversed here. She’s taken on the roll of Mom and I am the rebellious teenager who gets more rebellious as she loses weight. My daughter will have a Mom with tattoos, dressed like a hippie, and more piercings.

My top 20 groups and singers from the late 60’s (I wanted to do top ten but I just couldn’t. I liked too many and this really doesn’t even cover everyone from that era) : This is what I have to look forward to when I lose ten more pounds. These are in no particular order. I just couldn’t pick one over the other. I have all of these on vinyl.

1. Cream

2. Creedence Clearwater Revival

3. Grateful Dead

4. The Band

5. The Allman Brothers

6. Big Brother & the Holding Company

7. Jefferson Airplane

8. Canned Heat

9. Joe Cocker

10. Jimi Hendricks

11. The Doors

12. Country Joe & The Fish

13. Steve Miller Band

14. Procol Harum

15. Leon Russell

16. Santana

17. Iron Butterfly

18. Fleetwood Mac

19. Jethro Tull

20.Led Zeppelin

All of the above groups had at least one album out in the sixties and most of them played at Woodstock 1969woodstock-poster.jpg

That was the year I got married and Woodstock was going on during our honeymoon. We almost went but we heard on the radio about the traffic and decided to go to Canada instead. I wish now we had gone to Woodstock but I probably wouldn’t have liked all the mud and rain. We had all our camping stuff with us because we had very little money and camped out during our honeymoon.

We didn’t have a professional photographer so we don’t have many photos. We had a great wedding though and a wonderful honeymoon. I can only find one photo of the honeymoon. The rest are packed away somewhere.

honeymoon.jpgHoneymoon. We went to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Quebec. The sign says “Just Married” and that was the tiny tent we slept in.

I don’t know how this went from losing two pounds to my wedding. I always seem to go in all directions. Might as well post my engagement photo. The only professional photo I’ve ever had done.

engagement-photo.jpgI was 19 years old.
