Weight Watcher Saturday!! Waterfire Providence!!

The truth is I have missed my last two weight watcher meetings. My weight gain today proves that I shouldn’t miss meetings. In the past two months I have only been to 6 meetings. I have gained 5.6 pounds over the last few weeks.  Well, all I can say is that it is a lesson well learned. Proves the weight watcher point that if you attend meetings you lose more weight.

My weight watcher leader told me to just consider it a vacation.  Well, the vacation is over and I am back on track.  I don’t want all my past efforts to go down the drain.

My weight watcher leader, Lorraine, has started a blog.  It is called “Losing with Lorraine”.  Go here to visit her.

I hope you all take a trip over to her blog and tell her I sent you.  She will be posting recipes and just being her usual self, funny and very motivational. I know I couldn’t have lost the weight I have lost without her.

I am going to Providence, R.I. today to see The Waterfire.

“WaterFire Providence®, the award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art and a moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance. WaterFire’s one hundred sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the firetenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park. WaterFire has captured the imagination of over ten million visitors, bringing life to downtown, and revitalizing Rhode Island’s capital city.”

The wasband and his girlfriend are taking me.  Unfortunately for Barry he will be pushing me in the wheelchair because it involves a lot of walking for him, not me.   I have always wanted to see it.  I guess it is quite a sight. I will post photos when I return.

We are also going to visit my wasband’s Dad in the nursing home.  He is 97 and still functioning.  I’m looking forward to seeing him. He’s always been like a father to me.

To top it all off Barry is going to take us on a tour of all the houses I’ve lived in Rhode Island and there are many.  There will be photos.

I tried to read as many blogs as I could yesterday.  If I missed you I will be catching up soon.

First Annual Bloggers Beach Convention!!

I had the pleasure today of meeting, for the first time,  two of my blogging friends today.  I know you are all going to be jealous because you couldn’t be with me to meet Teeni and CuriousC.  It was an awesome beach day.

I brought sandwiches. Teeni brought an awesome fruit salad and CuriouC brought a huge array of beverages and some veggie sticks.  We met in town and went to the beach in my car because I have the beach sticker and the handicapped placard.  The beach wasn’t crowded so we really didn’t need the placard.

We set up on the beach and proceeded to talk non-stop for over three hours.  We checked out the Eye Candy.

Not that it did us much good.  Teeni and CuriouC are happily married and I am too old for young studs like these guys though I would have accepted another lap dance.

Teeni kept jumping out of the camera’s field of view like a little faerie , flitting about, so she somehow managed not to be in my photos.  She’s faster than the camera but my camera caught me and CuriousC.

CuriousC showed up with a gifts for me and Teeni.  She made notecards for us using her own photographs. If you read her blog you will know that she takes some great photos.

Teeni was wearing her barefoot sandals which are awesome.  She is now selling them in her Gift Shop.

They are so cute.  CuriousC bought a pair and I am buying a pair for someone as a gift.  So I spent the afternoon with two talented and wonderful women.  We ate, talked, laughed, talked, ate, laughed and generally had the best time. I felt like I had known them for years.

We are planning another get together in the future. If there are any other of our blogging buddies who would like to meet up with us in the Boston area let us know.

I could go on and tell you everyone everything we talked about but I won’t.  If we did talk about YOU it was all good.

I couldn’t blog yesterday because the wasband was on the computer all day.  Now that he is here during the week I have to share his computer with him.  But that’s OK he mowed the lawn and trimmed the bushes today while I sat on the beach with Teeni and CuriousC.

48Hours! Almost 30 years Ago!

I wrote a post back in January about the night I saw a policeman get shot. This is a link to that post.  John Busby, who was the cop that got shot, just wrote a book along with his daughter about the shooting and how he and his family had to disappear a year later because they never caught the shooter and were afraid he was going to go after John Busby again.

Whether you live in Falmouth or not it is a riveting book. John Busby’s daughter, Cylin,  who was 9 at the time of the shooting wrote the book along with her father.

This is from Amazon:

“The extraordinary true story of a family, a brutal shooting, and the year that would change their lives forever.

When Cylin Busby was nine years old, she was obsessed with Izod clothing, the Muppets, and her pet box turtle. Then, in the space of a night, everything changed. Her police officer father, John, was driving to work when someone leveled a shotgun at his window. The blasts that followed left John’s jaw on the passenger seat of his car—literally. Overnight, the Busbys went from being the “family next door” to one under 24-hour armed guard, with police escorts to school, and no contact with friends. Worse, the shooter was still on the loose, and it seemed only a matter of time before he’d come after John—or someone else in the family—again. With their lives unraveling around them, and few choices remaining for a future that could ever be secure, the Busby family left everything and everyone they had ever known…and simply disappeared.

As told by both father and daughter, this is a harrowing, and at times heartbreaking account of a shooting and its aftermath, even as it shows a young girl trying to make sense of the unthinkable, and the triumph of a family’s bravery in the face of crisis.”

So I am at my computer today and my next door neighbor, whose house John Busby ended up in after the shooting, called me to tell me the people from the TV show “48Hours” was at her house filming and John Busby was there too. Of course, I had to go over.  I wish I had brought my camera.  John was just leaving so I went over to him and introduced myself.  He was very nice and remembered that I was the one who thought the shooting was fireworks going off.

I ended up talking to the woman in charge of the two man camera crew also. They are coming back to do some filming at night because the shooting happened at night and I think they probably want to create the scene somewhat.  It will be shown in February.

After the statute of limitations was up the shooter’s brother confessed that he was in the car driving when the shooting happened along with the shooter’s wife who was murdered in May of 2005.  Her murder is still unsolved. The shooter left everything he had to his second wife who was the murder victim to the chagrin of his two boys from his first wife who “disappeared in the 70’s.

Here is a link to all of the local newspaper articles about the case.

The book reads like a novel even though it is all true.  I should know because I was there.

Ha! Ha! You’re Stuck With Me!! I’m Going To Live!!

I just got back from the Doctor and grocery shopping.  I’ve known My Doctor for years and I brought her some recipes she asked for months ago.  She’s great because she doesn’t rush you out the door. She even talks about her personal life to me. Anyway, when I told her my symptoms she didn’t skip a beat and said she knew positively that it was because I am slowly lowering my doses of prednisone and valium.  She said there is a nerve back there that probably, sort of, went to sleep for a while because of the valium and by cutting down on it said nerve is waking up. She said it will work itself out.  So, I guess I’m not going to have a stroke or have a blood clot explode and I probably don’t have a tumor.

I guess there aren’t any appropriate photos to post for tumors and blood clots so no photos. No, wait I do have a picture and I am adding now.

The inside of my doctor’s office.  See, I do bring my camera everywhere.

I’m too tired to do the meme I was going to do and too tired to think of anything else to write. I partied too much this weekend again.  Oh, well, I had so much fun.

Tropic Thunder and other stuff!

Last night Sarah, Obie, the wasband (yes, he’s back for a few days) and I went to The Falmouth Cinema Pub

to see The movie “Tropic Thunder”.

The theater that we went to is new and serves food, beer and wine.  I had a grilled chicken salad which was very good so I stuck with my WW plan. I also just had diet coke.  No one was in the mood to drink.  I think we did our fair share at the Luau. You sit in comfy chairs at tables.  It was very cool. I also had a $50 gift certificate that I got for my birthday so I was able to help pay for the evening.

The movie was hilarious. They have a part of the movie where they refer to mentally challenged people as retards.  I guess the movie was picketed in some areas for this un-politically correct use of the word retarded.  What they were really doing was spoofing Hollywood but some people just didn’t get it and took it the wrong way.  They had the character of Jack Black being in another movie called “Fatties”.  Now let’s face it–I’M FAT.  You didn’t see me picketing the place.  I was inside LMAO.  I guess I’m not easily offended.

I once had a very short old lady call me fat in my store.  She said ” You’re getting fatter”.  I remarked back and said  “You’re getting shorter”.  My father had to run out of the room, he was laughing so hard. I burst into laughter too. I couldn’t help myself.

I usually don’t get many laughs out of these types of comedies but this was very funny.  There are two surprise cameo appearances and one of them is hilarious.  You will know it when you realize who he is.  This is just not what I would expect from this actor but I thought he was tremendous at the role he played. Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey, Jr. are superb in their parts. I’m a huge Robert Downey, Jr. fan.  After seeing him in Ironman, I can’t believe what a great actor he is. Jack Black is absolutely hilarious in this film but then he always is.

The wasband’s girlfriend is a teacher and she goes back to work tomorrow.  She lives in the city and will be home at night to grade papers and go to sleep early.  I think Barry will probably stay at our house during the week so he can do his birding (mow the lawn, clean the gutters and do other odd jobs for us–he doesn’t know this yet.)  Well, I guess he does now because he reads my blog. The two of them have had a great summer traveling all over New England doing their bird thing.  He’s gotten more awesome photographs but I think they are both disappointed that it is over for a while. But they will have their weekends.  I talked to her for about 20 minutes last night. I just adore her. She is a sweetheart and I can see why the wasband loves her.

No beach today with Sarah.  It’s cloudy and I am going to take my brother grocery shopping because I want to have tomorrow free.  I just might be going to the beach with two of my blogging buddies that I have never met. I hope it all works out. They’ve been warned about our thieving seagulls.

I have my Doctor’s appointment for my tingly head in 45 minutes.  I’ll keep you posted. Hopefully I get to keep my brain.

Wedding Luau, Lap Dance At A Bar and Video Of Me Dancing!!

The Wedding Luau was awesome. I had the best time.  The food was delicious.  There was entertainment. That would be the two hula girls and me getting up to dance.

CANE-FU DANCING!!!

The bride on her wedding day in Hawaii

The food was excellent. They actually roasted a whole pig on a spit. I didn’t post that photo.

The Hula Girls

Me,  Cane-Fu dancing! Granted I am so sore today I can hardly move.

This video is of my daughter and some others learning how to Hula dance.  She is in the front on the right.

This is a fruit and vegetable carving!!

Sarah and her best friend, Bianca.  They have known each other since they were 6 years old.  Bianca was the Matron of Honor at the wedding in Hawaii. She is like a second daughter to me.

Obie, Sarah and me

Unfortunately, I have no photos from the bar.  After the wedding we went to this local bar because one of Sarah and Obie’s favorite bands was playing.  Our cameras were both full.

The band was the  “The Old Silver Band”.

They were rocking the place and everyone there was probably somewhat inebriated because it was already late.  I was standing with Sarah and Obie dancing with my cane, having a great time and this young guy ( quite handsome may I add) starts dancing with me. We were both laughing and then he went off and came back and danced with me a couple more times.  I think he was just being polite and trying to make the nice old lady feel at home. I knew a few of the other kids there.  They were friends of my son.  Finally I sat down because my whole body was in pain from over exertion and my young friend came and sat on my lap and did  a 1 minute lap dance.  Sarah and Obie were laughing it up and so was I.

I sure wish we had  cameras at the bar.  I guess I’m just going to have to go back to get some video.  (what an excuse to get another lap dance, eh?)

Oops! Another Award!!

Wow, I got another award.  This time it was from Annie over at Writer Chick Talks.

I can understand why she got the award.  She is a brillante writer.  I love using that new word I learned.  Annie is shining and bright and brilliant all rolled into one.

Here’s the scoop on the award itself:
The Oops award was created and is to be given to bloggers who inspire others with their humor and their talents, also for contributing to the blogging world in whatever medium. When you receive this award it is considered a “special honor”. Once you have received this award, you are to pass it on to others.”

The rules for passing this honor on:

1) Pick 5 blogs that you would like to award this honor to.
2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.
4) Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of “Oops” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.

Now I have to pick award winners.  REMEMBER,  if I don’t pick you it doesn’t mean I don’t love you.

First one goes to “Three Boys One Mommy”

Now this is a woman who has her work cut out for her.  She has three beautiful young boys and still finds the time to write a humorous blog.  She must be SuperMommy to do that.  Her sons are adorable. She posts pictures of them so we get to see their cuteness. I’m surprised she hasn’t had to have Supernanny come to her house but she seems to have a good handle on the mommy thing. She could probably teach Jo Frost a thing or two.

Next is Sheng at “Anything Goes”

The following is her byline and I think this tells so much about her.

“I am an open book, my life is colored by pages, and everytime you open me, my different emotions are what you’ll see. Come on, go read, life is a challenge I must heed. I’ll share my life and do learn from it, live the lessons, live to fit.”

Sheng is a young  woman from the Philippines about my daughter’s age. She writes with passion and feeling. I find her to be such a beautiful young lady both inside and out. She also cooks good and posts pics of her food.

Next is Laura from “Sew at Sea”

She does a lot more than sew. She’s beautiful and intends to live on a boat with her man, Hans, next year.  She has a daughter, Vet Tech Girl.  She’s got a great sense of humor and I love her story of how she met Hans.  She makes the most beautiful bags.  Oh, and she has cats.  We know I love cats.

Next is Jeanny from “Startin’ a New Life”

She is another young woman from the Philippines.  She loves to bake and cook.  She loves her hubby DJ. She is so cute with her wonderful smile.  I love to read her blog and see what she is up to.

The last award is to someone special but she had a problem with someone harassing her on her blog so she hasn’t given out her new blog address to many yet so I want to keep her anonymity for her.  I will go to her blog and let her know.  She is a wonderful woman with a great husband and young children and lives on the opposite side of the world from me.  So because of this I won’t leave a link but I want her to have the award.  There really is someone. I’m not making this up because I didn’t want to give out five awards. 😉

I’ll be posting about the wedding Luau I went to last night which includes video of me Cane-Fu dancing, video of sexy hula dancers and video of my daughter and her friends learning a hula dance.  I will also tell you of the lapdance that I got at the bar we went to afterwards.

Random Stuff!!

First of all, I am going to a wedding reception for one of my daughter’s friends. She was married last week in Hawaii and is having a reception at her home for her friends tonight. I’m lucky I get invited to most of my daughter’s friend’s parties.  So I am looking forward to this.  It is going to be a catered Luau, roasted pig and all.

Next Sunday my sister is having a cook out.  Her hubby’s brother and wife are coming down. So that should be fun too.

I am just going to have to be very careful with the food.  I missed WW today because I didn’t hear my alarm go off.  I missed it last week because I was sick.  I don’t think I have gained anything but I also don’t think I have lost anything.  Too many concerts and parties.

Speaking of concerts my wasband is going to take me to see Xavier Rudd on September 11th.  The tickets are only $22 so I am going to treat him because he always gets stuck paying.  I am really excited to see this concert.

I made an appointment for the Doctor on Monday.  I have been getting this weird tingly feeling in the back of my head.  It’s been constant for the past couple of weeks.  I’m convinced it’s a brain tumor or a blood clot that is about to explode.  More than likely it’s a pinched nerve or something. But I suppose I should go  find out.  I just hope I don’t have to have a battery of tests.  I hate hospital tests.  I hope the Doctor can just feel my neck and tell me what’s wrong.

STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO WORK FOR ME

THANKING GOD EVERYDAY THAT I AM RETIRED.

Brillante– I Guess I Am a Dumbass!! Ha! Ha!

That award that I just got and passed out is not for being brilliant. It’s more for being bright and shining.

Notice the spelling of the word.  Brillante means in both Italian and Spanish:  bright, shining as in a diamond.  In English I think we tend to look at the definition in this case as brilliant as in mental capacity rather than a bright shining diamond.  Either way it is a great award.  I am the dumbass for thinking Brillante was spelled wrong.  Ha! Ha! For those of you who think I’m brilliant I guess we will go for shining and not great mental capacity. 😉

I least I can admit when I am a dumbass.

FEEL FREE TO GRAB THIS CERTIFICATE WHEN YOU CAN ADMIT YOU ARE HAVING A DUMBASS MOMENT.  IT’S ESPECIALLY GREAT FOR PEOPLE WHO AREN’T BLOND CAUSE YOU DON’T HAVE THE HAIR TO BLAME IT ON.

So even though I gave it out thinking you were all brilliant you might only be a shining bright diamond.  I’m not even sure!!!  But I do know I love you all.

A F****** Ride With My Sister In Town -Includes Video

I have to dedicate this video to Wendy at “Life With Buck”.   My sister, Barbara, is in the video and she is Wendy’s best friend. As many of you already know, my sister and Wendy worked together at the local newspaper for many years. They share a bizarre sense of humor and Barbara and I consider Wendy our long lost sister.  I think Wendy will enjoy seeing Barbara being her usual self.

Rated R for language.  Any video that my sister is in will be rated R for language.  It just seems to slip off her tongue especially when she is driving in summer traffic.
